Support Columbia Choirs

Concert ticket purchases cover only about 50% of the expense of producing our concerts. You can support Columbia Choir's concert season and educational outreach projects with a donation. Your tax-deductible gift will be gratefully acknowledged in our concert programs. Our existence relies heavily on the generous donations from our members, as well as public and private sponsors.

The Columbia Choirs Association (CCA) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization run by adult volunteers, mainly parents of the children singers in Columbia Choirs, Inc (CCI). It functions as a support organization for the CCI and depends totally on members and parents. We provide scholarships for tours, retreats, and tuition; run the uniform bank; provide chaperone for choir activities; and arrange and pay for concert opportunities. Of all of these activities, our most important function is the providing of scholarships.  Dues and any other donations to the Association are fully tax deductible for tax purposes.

The by-laws of CCA require that a minimum of 80% of our revenues after operating expenses be used for scholarship. We are dedicated to ensuring that no child will be unable to participate in Columbia Choirs due to financial difficulties. The primary motivation behind this dedication is simply that we see the benefit to individual children and adults of participating in choir, we understand that such participation helps children grow into strong and generous adults, and we see the benefit to our community of offering the gift of music. We also appreciate the value of a diverse choir, one which includes people from a wide variety of backgrounds, and which will help to foster understanding and acceptance between these people as they grow through choir. And on a more mundane level, providing scholarships helps ensure that we are able to field a balanced choir for tours and concerts. If, for example, too many altos are unable to pay for a choir tour, it can jeopardize the ability of the entire choir to participate.

As a fiscally responsible organization, CCA does not award scholarships out of money which may be needed for operating expenses; rather, at the end of a fiscal year, we determine what our excess money is after all operating expenses for that year have been paid; that becomes the money we use for scholarships for the following year.
